Hello, everyone! After the excitement of Lutheran Schools/Spirit Week, we are getting back to more of a normal schedule this week. Here are the updates for this week.
6th Religion
This week we will be studying King David’s son and grandson, Solomon and Rehoboam. These lessons will focus on how certain actions bring serious consequences, but God is also quick to forgive when we repent. The memory verse this week is Joel 2:13, which emphasizes God’s grace and forgiveness.
6th Social Studies
In social studies this week we will study the Qin and Han Dynasties of China, especially the accomplishments of the Han Dynasty. The test on Topic 5 will be next Wednesday, February 5th. Our next unit of study will focus on ancient African Kings.
7th Religion
Last week, the students worked on an assignment reading about angels in the Bible. This week, they will work on research projects about specific types of angels- archangels, cherubim, seraphim, messengers, and guardians. They will have the option to make a Google Slides presentation or write and illustrate a children’s style book to present their research. The memory verse this week is 1 Peter 5:8-9a.
7th Social Studies
This week we will wrap up our study of the Constitution and civics, by looking at how federalism works and the rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizens. The test on Topic 4 will be on Monday, February 5th. Then, the students will work on and present research projects on African American government officials.
8th Religion
Religion class is on hiatus due to the exercise study the students are participating in, but they will receive the project outline for the Trimester 2 project in social studies on Monday. The students will research a career they are interested in- the education and training required, pay, job responsibilities- and write about how they can serve God and others in their chosen field. The students will work on this independently outside of class time. The project is due on Tuesday, February 13th.
8th Social Studies
This week we will be focusing on how the U.S. was involved in World War I. We will especially focus on the African American regiment, the Harlem Hellfighters, who fought bravely on the Western Front in France. Next Monday, we will wrap up Topic 12 with Wilson’s Fourteen Points. The test on Topic 12 will be on Friday, February 9th. Then, the students will dig deeper into learning more about African American service men and women for their Topic 12 research project.
