Welcome back to a new week at Trinity! Again, we have a short week of classes due to Parent-Teacher Conferences on Friday. I look forward to seeing all of you! Here are the updates for the week.
6th Religion
In religion this week we will study some of the events that took place while the Israelites were on their journey to the Promised Land. We will read about God affirming Moses and Aaron as His chosen leaders when their authority is questioned by the Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. We will then see how God provides fresh water for the people at Meribah, despite their grumbling and Moses’ anger. The memory quiz is on Wednesday this week, and the verse is John 17:17.
6th Social Studies
The students have been working diligently on their pharaoh research projects, and they will present in class on Wednesday. Then we will move on to studying the cultural achievements of Ancient Egypt. Next week, we will study Egypt’s neighbor to the south, Kush/Nubia.
7th Religion
On Monday we will begun unit two, which is all about the Holy Spirit. We will start with learning who He is and then how He brings us to faith. One of the major Bible stories we will look at is from Acts when the Holy Spirit worked through the Apostles at Pentecost. The memory quiz this week is on Wednesday, and the verse is Titus 3:5, which fits our theme of the Holy Spirit perfectly.
7th Social Studies
In social studies we are also starting fresh with a new unit. In topic three, we will be venturing into the Revolutionary War Era. We will start first with the French and Indian War, which is the event that sparked all the taxes England levied on the Colonies. Then we will study the many colonial protests against the taxes, the most famous of which being the Boston Tea Party.
8th Religion
Last week we studied the Ten Commandments and their role in our lives, and this week we will study what the Israelites were up to (making the golden calf idol) while Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving them. Then we will learn about the Tabernacle, which was the mobile temple that God instructed the people to build. This was placed in the center of their camps so they were constantly reminded of God’s presence among them. The memory quiz this week is on Thursday, and the verse is Galatians 3:13, which reminds us that Jesus took the curse of our sins upon Himself.
8th Social Studies
We will continue our study of the industrialization of America this week. We will finish learning about the organized labor movement, and then move on to the final lesson of the unit on new technologies that were developed at the turn of the 20th century. The test on Topic 10 will be on Tuesday, November 21st. We are also tentatively planning a Monopoly tournament on Wednesday, November 22nd to truly finish out our unit.
