We are starting our second theme this week titled “My Family” and beginning with unit 1 titled “Who’s in My Family?”. BIG Idea: I am an important part of my family. Knowledge Focus: Children learn about family members, family roles, and unique qualities of families. Social-Emotional focus: kindness. The theme vocabulary words include: family, father, mother, brother, sister, grandfather, grandmother and kindness. Math vocabulary words include: circle, corner, side, square, rectangle and triangle.

We will be learning the letter Cc, color brown, diamond and number 5. We will be reading the books “Bear’s Busy Family”, “Herman the Helper” and “Daddy Calls Me Man”. We will also be reading “Robot to the Rescue!” Scholastic weekly reader in honor of fire prevention this week and “Don’t Waste That Pumpkin!” Scholastic weekly reader. In the afternoon, we will be working on a Bat fact booklet! Every Friday, we will continue to recap the week in our Journals.

We will continue talking about pumpkins and introduce all things bats! We will take a virtual field trip to learn about bats and their habitats, as well as introduce the terms nocturnal, echolocation and explain how bats are mammals! We will watch “Franklin and His Night Friend” (a short clip) on Friday. We will complete various crafts for the two themes. We will weigh pumpkins on our science table. In our sensory bin, we will continue to be using dirt, colored paper and farm animal toys to play with! I apologize in advance if they come home a little dirty! More farm animal and October/pumpkin crafts will soon be displayed on Classdojo.

For music and movement, we will be continue to sing our “5 Little Pumpkins” song, “Spooky Walk” song and do our Skeleton dance using GoNoodle.com.
