Hello, everyone, and welcome back to a new week at Trinity. I hope to see all of you at Back to School Night on Tuesday, the 19th. You will hear from all of the teachers and we will go over our policies and give a brief overview of what your children will be learning this year. In the meantime, here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

This week we are getting into Genesis chapters 4-11. We will finish learning about Cain and Abel on Monday, and then we will learn about the Great Flood and the Tower of Babel. Throughout each of these stories, we see God’s grace and mercy for His people. Yes, He wants our obedience, but He is loving and will always forgive when His people when we repent. The memory verse this week is Romans 5:10.

6th Social Studies

The first unit of sixth grade social studies is all about prehistoric times, but we are starting to move toward the first civilizations. The students will learn about how communities formed complex cultures and began farming and domesticating animals. We will finish Topic 1 next week, and the test is scheduled for Friday, September 29th. The students will complete a review in class early next week to help them study for their test.

7th Religion

In religion we are still exploring who God is and how He speaks to His people through His Word, the Bible. This week we will look at how God gave us His Word through the prophets, the characteristics of God, and the truthfulness of His Word. We will focus on the stories of Abram and Sarai reacting to the promise of having a son in old age, and the work of Jeremiah as a prophet to Israel. The memory verse this week is Isaiah 44:6.

7th Social Studies

This week we will go more in depth with the trade networks of Europe, Africa, and Asia. Then we will study the beginning of European exploration of the Americas, including the Vikings and Christopher Columbus.. The students will also work on a project developing a holiday and celebration for a historical figure who they believe deserves more recognition. In 2021, Governor Hochul signed a bill acknowledging Indigenous People’s Day concurrently with Columbus Day, and this serves as the inspiration for our project. Who else do the students think should be celebrated, and how? Next week, the students will have their test on Topic 1 on Friday, September 29th. They will complete a review earlier in the week.

8th Religion

In religion this week, we will look at the promises God make to Noah after the Flood, and then How God intervened at the Tower of Babel. Lastly, we will learn about the promises God made to Abram. The overarching theme of this week is God’s omnipotence and the fact that He always keeps His promises. The memory verse for this week is 2 Corinthians 10:17-18.

8th Social Studies

In social studies, the students will be presenting their first projects this week on Civil War generals. Then, we will look at the early battles of the war and how President Lincoln started the process of ending slavery. Next week we will look at the lives of both soldiers and civilians, and the later battles. The Topic 8 test is scheduled for October 4th.
