Hello fabulous fourth grade families this week we will be doing a variety of lessons and activities to start our school year off strong.
Below you will find what we will be doing for each subject this week:
ELA: This week we will continue reading our first class read-aloud, Because of Winn-Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. As we read together we will be focusing on learning good reading habits such as self monitoring, and comprehension strategies. There will be a spelling test on Friday 9-22, with words pulled out of Because of Winn-Dixie. In grammar we are continuing to learn about the different types of sentences.
Math: This week in Math we finish Module 1 focuses on the place value of whole numbers. We will have our first math quiz on Wednesday 9-20, and a test on 9-21. The quiz and test are similar, and quiz corrections can be completed to earn back points. (I will be going over the math quiz and test policies during back to school night.) Please be sure to check google classroom for helpful videos and handouts. I also put a copy of the HW pages that can be printed and completed if packets get lost.
Religion: This week we discuss the holy trinity. We will also be talking about our class bible verse and how it related to our school wide theme of kindness.
Social Studies: This week in S.S. we start our study of New York State. We begin chapter 1: The Geography of New York, focusing on locating NY on a map. We also will begin our first at home S.S. project, New York State Floats, that are due on 10-15. We will be having a NY State Parade on 9-20 following chapel.
Science: This week we begin our first unit of study in science, The Birth of Rocks, focusing on how we define a rock and how they are formed and where they are found.
