Hello, everyone! Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

In religion class this week we will continue through the events of Jesus’ earthly life and learn about how His cousin, John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus, and then baptized Him in the Jordan River. The memory verse for this week is Matthew 4:19-20.

6th Social Studies

Due to getting a slightly late start to our Roman architecture projects, we will be finishing those at the beginning of the week. Then, we will get in to the cultural legacy of the Roman Empire, the downfall of the Roman Empire, and the Rise of the eastern Byzantine Empire. Their test on Topic 8: The Roman and Byzantine Empires will be on Friday, May 18th.

7th Religion

In religion this week we will learn about following God even when it doesn’t make sense, through the story of Gideon. Then we will learn about the importance of prayer throughout the Bible, especially the prayers of Jesus Himself. The memory verse for this week is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.

7th Social Studies

On Friday, the students began research projects on various the inventions and culture of the late 1800s. They will present those in class on Wednesday. Then we will begin Topic 7 with learning about the Industrial Revolution and immigration of the mid 1800s. This chapter will focus on how the North and South were developing very different economies, cultures, and very different opinions on slavery. This chapter leads up to the split of North and South in the Civil War.

8th Religion

In religion we will begin studying the life of Jesus. We will study how His birth perfectly fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament, and the His relationship with and baptism from John the Baptist. The memory verse for this week is 1 Peter 3:15.

8th Social Studies

This week we will continue to learn about the post World War II years. We will study the Korean War and other conflicts relating to the containment of communism. Then, we will look at how the culture in the Unites States began to shift in the 1950s and 1960s. Their test on Topic 15 will be on Wednesday, May 17th.
