Last week we explored the often tumultuous weather of March. We discussed how March begins like winter and ends like spring. We learned about the wind / air and letter Kk.
This week, we are going green and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and Irish culture. Our learning play centers will be turning green with the luck of the Irish as well. Our Sensory table will be filled with a pot of gold to measure, weigh and play with. Our STEM center will have a “design your own leprechaun trap” challenge to create as a group. Our Literacy center will have letter Rr work boards and St. Patrick’s Day themed books to read. Our dramatic play center will be turned into a potato kitchen. There will be potato head toys and potatoes to pretend to mash and fry and otherwise cook into tasty pretend recipes. We will have a few art projects available in the Art center including: Green Clover Collages, Puffy Paint Rainbows, Shamrock Potato Stamps, Shamrock Shadow Paintings and Leprechaun Portraits.
In addition, this week we will discover letter Rr and rainbows. We will learn to count the “Five Little Shamrocks” and “Ten Shamrocks” math fingerplays. We will enjoy green playdough, many stories about Irish culture, the history of St. Patrick and we will even bake up some delicious Irish soda bread.
Our religion lessons this week will be the bible story, “Noah’s Ark,” and the symbol of the rainbow as God’s promise to Noah that He would always take care of His people; that the future would be brighter.
