Last week we enjoyed a week of Dr. Seuss themed stories and activities. It was so amazing to see how excited the children were about Dr. Seuss and his many wacky books.
March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, or so they say. This week we will explore the turbulent weather that often comes with March. We will discover more about air, wind and clouds and how these factors effect our lives. We will create our own wind when we blow air on pinwheels to make them turn and blow through straws onto paint.
K is for kites! We will explore the principles of kite flying and create a few kites of our own. We will also develop a greater phonemic awareness of letter Kk through a variety of fun letter K activities. We will learn about the shapes that form a kite: rhombuses, parallelograms and triangles and use those shapes to create patterns on kites. We will also sing a few fingerplays about kites including, “Five Little Kites.”
Our Jesus Time lesson will be “God made the plants” by Faith Alive. We will learn all about how God gives life to seeds. We will start a few seeds of our own in the science center and record their heights as they grow.
We have very exciting wind and weather centers to play in during center time play. Our sensory bin will contain gold coins and leprechaun sensory materials. Our STEM center will have plants and seeds to observe as they grow and triangle, parallelogram and rhombus pattern blocks to design with. In the Literacy Center we will have books on wind and letter Kk work boards to discover. Our Dramatic Play area will transform into a weather / news station. The children will take on the roles of newscasters and weathermen in a news studio. The Art Center will have kite making, cloud painting, blow art and wind sock crafts. It should be an exciting week exploring wind and kites.
