This week each of the classes will be doing lessons and activities to honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King is, “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” As a Christian, I think this is a great reminder that we should always trust God and trust in His plans. Here are the updates for this week.

6th Religion

Due to Terra Nova exams this week, we will only meet twice. We will be studying the story of David and Goliath. There is no memory verse this week.

We will study The Han dynasty, and then the students will try their hands at Chinese Calligraphy. Next week the students will have their test on Topic 5 on Friday, January 27th. Our next unit will cover major pre-colonial African Kings.

Last week, the students began working on their second trimester project, Calling All Workers. The students are assigned to research a career that interests them, and focus on how someone in that field can serve others and God. They will present their projects in class on Friday, January 20th.

8th Social Studies

This week the students will be researching civil rights leaders of late 1800s and early 1900s, and comparing them to Martin Luther King Jr. We will begin our new unit next week which will cover the Spanish American War, the purchase of Alaska, and World War I.
