Hello, everyone. Here are the updates for this week.
6th Religion
This week we will be finishing up Unit. 2. We will finish our study of the Book of Joshua, and we will get into the Book of Judges. We will learn about how God used strong women (Deborah and Jael) to defeat the Israelites’ enemies, and then we will learn about the weakest strong man, Samson. On Friday, the students will work on the Unit 2 Review. The test will be next Thursday, December 14th. The memory verse for this week is 2 Corinthians 12:9b, as it is written on page 53 of the student workbook. The quiz is on Friday.
6th Social Studies
In social studies, the students will be learning about the main religions that came from Ancient India, Hinduism and Buddhism. The students will have a test on Topic 4 Lessons 1-4 next Wednesday, December 13th. Then, the students will complete research projects on important leaders from Ancient India.
7th Religion
This week we will get into learning about different denominations of Christianity, and then some church history as we begin a series of lessons on Martin Luther, and how his story of starting the Protestant Reformation is similar to heroes from the Bible. The memory verse for this week is Psalm 122:1. The quiz is on Wednesday.
7th Social Studies
On Monday, we will finish the last of the Revolutionary War, and then the students will begin reviewing for their test on Topic 3. The test will be on Friday, December 9th. I told the students last week that they should be reviewing their notes a little each evening, and that their homework assignments are also helpful for studying.
8th Religion
Last week, the students started their Unit 2 Review, and the test is Tuesday, December 5th. On Thursday, we will learn about the Israelites’ conquest of the Land of Canaan, and God’s unique plan for protecting the rights of the accused in the Cities of Refuge. The memory verse for this week is Isaiah 41:13, and the quiz is on Thursday.
8th Social Studies
This week the students are working on research projects on African American inventors and entrepreneurs of the early 1900s. They will present those projects on Wednesday, December 7th. Then, we will begin Topic 11, which will go into immigration and the rise of the Progressive Era of the 1900s.
