I hope everyone enjoyed this beautiful weekend. While the colors of the trees were in beautiful fall bloom, the temperature still felt like summer! It was the perfect weekend for a nature walk and a leaf hunt. Last week we focused a lot on leaves and their different shaped and colors. We made leaf handprints for our communal wall and we watercolored leaves for our November door.
This week we will start a new curriculum unit called Our Community. We will read Lola at the Library, Knuffle Bunny, and A Good Night Walk. Our new vocabulary will be: building, community, firehouse, hospital, library, and park. We will color buildings and people to create a map.
Math this week will focus on #9 and gray. We will also talk about direction with the vocabulary words: above, near, next to, location, route, and through.
Science will be about squirrels this week. We put our carved pumpkin outside the classroom window and are hoping some squirrels will stop by to visit and have a treat. We will read Squirrels All Year Long, and we will make a cute squirrel craft. We will also have a new sensory table with squirrels and items from nature to play with.
Our letter for the week is Gg. We will practice capital and lowercase Gg, we will create a list of Gg words, and we will have show and tell on Friday with Gg objects from home.
Jesus time this month is all about being thankful. This week we will read the story of Hannah and remember to thank God for churches. We will also visit chapel on Wednesday.
Tuesday is Election Day so we will vote for our snack, and talk a little about voting.
Friday is Veteran’s Day. We will read a Weekly Reader about Veterans and watch a Scholastic video. We will also create a camouflage heart and remember to thank our Veterans.
