Reading Language Arts
Reading-Unit 1 Text Set 2/3 (Two Week Outlook) Test Thursday 11/10 (Comprehension/Vocabulary/Grammar)
Wonders: In our Literature Anthology we will be reading two fictional texts, a fantasy, Little Flap Learns to Fly as well as a fictional story, Help! A Story of Friendship
•Making inferences using text and illustrations throughout the story
•Identify/describe main story elements in a literary text
Spelling/Phonics Focus
•Spelling words-bag, cap, ham, bake, ate, mad, back, cape, made, rake, pal, late, into, done, your Weekly Test Thursday 11/10
•2 letter blends, inflectional endings -s, -ed, -ing, long u, long e
Vocabulary
•word meanings and their parts of speech: actions, afraid, depend, nervously, perfectly, rescued, peered, secret
Writing-Think of a time when you needed help. How did a friend help you?
•Focus on the topic above and write a narrative using a sequence of events, transitions and ending
•Reflect and respond to our reading by writing in our Reading/Writing Companion, understanding how we use text evidence to support our responses
•Write sentences that make sense and proofread to be sure they include appropriate punctuation and capitalization
•poetry/writing journals-fall poems and November writing prompts
Grammar
•review types of sentences: commands, exclamations, interjections
•subjects/predicates in a sentence
•quotation marks
Handwriting
•completion of manuscript letter review K k, Z z and numerals- cursive ahead!
•focusing on size of our letters: differentiating between letters that touch headline/midline/baseline, spacing, and how we form our letters in our daily work
Math-Module 2 Test Thursday 11/10
•Identifying even/odd numbers, arrays
•Daily word problem solving- Math journal work
Social Studies / Science
•Understanding Veteran’s Day-to honor veterans who have served our country, we are currently painting watercolor “poppies” along with preparing veteran “badges of honor” to display in the hallway
•Family traditions-do you have any? Compiling ideas for ongoing class book project
•Continuation of Mystery Science experiment, What do scientists do?
•Scholastic News
Religion-Chapel is Wednesday
•The Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
•Prayer books-The Lord’s Prayer
•Daily writing of prayers to add to our classroom prayer box
Important Information and News:
•Thank you to Mrs. Bumpass and Mrs. King who coordinated donations for last Monday’s celebration. We enjoyed plenty of delicious cupcakes and had a lot of fun painting pumpkins!
•School will be closed this Friday in observance of Veteran’s Day
•Please keep November 17th open on your calendars for Parent Teacher Conferences. Be sure to look for incoming information from the Main Office regarding specifics on signing up for a time slot

•Homework Please encourage as much independence as possible when completing homework. Homework is expected to be done neatly. Kindly initial their planner each night. Take Home Folders will need to be emptied every night as well. Thank you!
