Welcome to the last week of October. This year is already flying by! Last week we learned about spiders and skeletons, we played with ooblek in the sensory table, and we enjoyed the beautiful fall weather outside.
This week we continue with our family unit with the topic “Family Fun”. We will read Celebrations, What Mommies Do Best/What Daddies Do Best, and Feast For 10. Our new vocabulary will be: celebrate, holiday, and relatives.
In math we will focus on the number 7, orange, and oval. We will also work on the concept of “How many?”
For Jesus time we will learn about Jacob taking care of Joseph. We also continue to learn new songs including “Jesus Loves the Little Children”. We will also read the story P is for Pumpkin, an alphabet story about all of the wonderful things God gives us in the fall.
Science this week will be all about pumpkins. We will carve a pumpkin and use our 5 sense to explore the pumpkin. We will feel the inside and save some seeds to plant in the spring. We will talk about the life cycle of a pumpkin and the parts of a pumpkin including: seed, stem. pulp, flesh, and shell. We will also read the story Pumpkin Jack about a pumpkin decomposing and we will create our own experiment with a pumpkin to watch it decompose over time.
Our letter for the week will be Ee. We will trace the letter E, trace some Ee words, and put on our thinking caps to create a list of Ee words. Remember to help your child choose something that starts with the letter Ee for show and tell on Friday.
We will have a new sensory table this week with orange rice and Halloween items to sort.
On Monday this week we will also be having a special guest come in and teach us about Diwali!
