Week 2 – September 12, 2022
“Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.” – Dalai Lama
We are having a great start to the new year, and we are beginning to establish our routines. The children are working so cooperatively together that I had to take a quick photograph! It is a wonderful class and I am looking forward to a fantastic school year.
Back to School Night is on Tuesday, September 20th. I am hoping to see everyone there because I will be going over important information regarding the school year.
Please make sure that your child comes to school each day with a fully charged chromebook. Also, please do not change the password on your child’s Trinity student account or any other account that is setup by the school. At this grade level, I occasionally go in their accounts to help them. I truly appreciate your cooperation on this.
Below is a brief synopsis on what we will be covering this week. We will be going slow in the beginning of the year, and gradually we will pick up the pace.
Science: We are beginning our study of Animals Through Time by investigating the mystery Where Can You Find Whales in the Desert? Students will explore the idea that the rock under our feet sometimes contains fossils, and then investigate how these fossils reveal changes in habitat through time. Our vocabulary includes quarry, fossil, polar, jungle, forest, grassland, ocean, habitats, extinct, and aquatic.
Social Studies: We are working on geography skills. We will be focusing on using maps and globes. Some of the vocabulary words we will be covering include political map, map legend, map key, scale, and compass rose. I will also introduce the students to Seterra.com. This is an online game that helps students learn/practice their geography skills.
Religion: The students are learning who God is and how we can know Him. Our prayer video this week is Church by Cochren & Company. I encourage everyone to worship regularly with their families.
Math: We have a new math series this year called Into Math. We are beginning our 1st Module on Understanding Multiplication. Our vocabulary will include equal groups, factor, multiply, and product.
ELA
Reading: This week we will be using Storyworks to focus on main idea and supporting details., building background knowledge, and compare and contrast.
Phonics: We are reviewing consonants and consonant variants, such as hard and soft c.
Handwriting: We are reviewing manuscript letters.
Finally, I am holding off on starting our new ELA series, Wonders, for now. We still need the Reading Anthology and the Reading/Writing Companion to arrive.
Have a wonderful week! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at [email protected].
