February was off to an exciting start. We celebrated Lunar New Year and watched Punxsutawney Phil declare six more weeks of winter! Whew! The excitement continues because even though February is a short month, we have a lot to learn about! This week and next we will be covering Black History Month, Dental Health Month, President’s Day, and we will celebrate Valentine’s Day, all before the most anticipated winter break!
This week the boys and girls will begin riding tricycles in the Multi Purpose Room. If you haven’t sent in a helmet for your child, please do so as we will start on Monday. Our Mother Goose Time curriculum for this week is about the Orchestra. We will learn to celebrate culture through music and use sounds to express our emotions. This ties in nicely to Black History Month because we will be learning about Louis Armstrong, an American trumpeter who is among the most influential figures in jazz. We will also learn about Mae Jemison, the first African American woman to go into space.
We will read Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb, along with The Jazz Fly, and The Jazz Fly 2. We will go to Chapel on Wednesday and for Jesus time during the week, we will learn about Philip and the Ethiopian. We will also talk about one of Louis Armstrong’s greatest hits, “What a Wonderful World” and tie that into the wonderful world that God has created for us.
