Hello to one and all! I hope everyone had a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. We are now shifting gears into the season of Advent when we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ and look forward to His coming again. That being said, we only have a few weeks before Christmas break, so we are full speed ahead with our work in each class. Here are the updates for the week.

Seventh grade parents- please scroll to the bottom of the page for a special announcement after reading the social studies update.

6th Religion

In sixth grade religion, we will be studying the early days of Joshua’s leadership as the Israelites entered the Promised Land, especially at the Battle of Jericho. Then, we will learn about the beginning of the Era of the Judges, which follows Joshua’s death. The memory verse this week is Psalm 121:8, and the quiz will be on Wednesday.

6th Social Studies

As announced last week, the students will have their test on Topic 3, Egypt and Kush, on Tuesday, November 30th. You may view the study guide here. On Wednesday, we will begin studying the early civilizations of India. We will look at the early cultures that developed near the Indus River, as well as the culture that developed out of Brahmanism and Hinduism.

7th Social Studies

This week we will be studying the battles of the Revolutionary War, and the movement to become an independent nation. I anticipate that the topic test will be next Friday, December 10th. More details will be posted next week.

8th Religion

This week we are studying the last years of Moses’ life and his final words and decisions for the Israelites. The memory verse for this week is John 3:14-15, and the quiz will be on Thursday.

8th Social Studies

The last few weeks we have been focusing on life out west following the Civil War, but this week we are shifting to the East Coast, and the rise of big business and a group pf people who have become known as the, “Robber Barons.” We will also study the start of the labor movement and the inventions that changed the lives of Americans, and brought our country into the 20th century.

7th Homeroom

As we are all well aware, our plans for the Thanksgiving feast and class party did not go as planned. Our fantastic class moms sent in quite a spread of cakes and pies, but I decided not to send them home on Wednesday. Instead, I have them refrigerated, and we will have a class party on Monday, December 6th, to celebrate everyone’s return to school. I pray that you are all well and I pray for a full and speedy recovery for those who are ill. Lots of love to everyone.
