We had a fabulous beginning to the new school year! Here is where you will find what our focus will be for the new week ahead!
Language Arts
We have begun a novel study and are enjoying Herbie Sails into Second Grade together. We are touching upon key elements of a story including characters, setting and the problem. We are learning about genre and reading to understand. As we read, we look at details, find parts of speech (noun, adjectives and verbs), and make predictions as well as conclusions.
Math
We will continue to be amazed by discovering how much math is around us! This explains why math is so important to learn! We begin lessons in our book this week and will review even and odd numbers.
Social Studies
We begin to understand our textbook and how information will be presented using bar graphs and flow charts. Map and graph skills will be introduced.
Science
How do scientists know so much?
Handwriting/Manuscript
We will be laying the foundation for writing instruction. Review of the correct positions for sitting, holding a pencil and positioning the paper will help guide students to write legibly. Review of the basic strokes used to form all the manuscript letters will begin this week.
Religion-We are currently collecting toilet paper rolls for a Prayer Box project! Please send yours in!
What is the Bible? What is prayer?
We will add a prayer to our prayer journal.
Chapel will be every Wednesday morning.
