Happy February! I hope everyone is staying safe and warm and preparing for the snow! Please continue to complete the daily attestations every morning before coming to school.
We are starting theme 5 this month called “Imagine it, Make it” and starting with unit one which is called “Using My Imagination”. BIG Idea: I can imagine all kinds of things. Knowledge Focus: Children learn how imagination and creativity shape our world. Social-Emotional focus: Initiative. The theme vocabulary words include: create, imagination, imagine, pretend and visualize. Math vocabulary words include: numerals and quantity.
We will be learning the letter Qq and #19. We will be reading the books “Not a Box”, “The Shape of Things” and “Ten Black Dots”. We will read The Shadows Scholastic weekly reader book.
For Jesus time, we will be discussing how Jesus teaches about the birds and flowers. We will also learn a new song called “Jesus is my Valentine” which is sung to the tune of Jesus Loves Me.
As a class craft, the children will be doing Q is for Q-tip. They will be painting an uppercase letter Q with Q-tips for their ABC book. We will also be doing a groundhog day craft in which the students will see their own silhouettes of their shadow. We will also start to make Valentines this week in preparation for the the upcoming holiday. Once completed, we will walk to the mailbox as a class on the 10th and mail them to our families.
February is also Black History Month. We will be learning about different black authors and famous black people in history. We will read a Weekly Reader about Black History Month later on this month.
