Update: Please note that I mistakenly wrote the wrong date for the Social Studies assessment. It was on Wednesday, October 14th. The children were well aware of the day, and we thoroughly reviewed all the information prior to the assessment. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Week 5 and 6

“Don’t just fly, soar.” – Walt Disney

I hope everyone got a chance to enjoy the long weekend.

Since this is a four-day week and next week is also a four-day week, I am combining them into one news letter.

Picture day in on Thursday, October 22, at 10:30 a.m.

Chromebooks: Please make sure they come to school fully charged each day. Students should bring their power cords if they are concerned about their Chromebooks dying.

Math: We are representing data using different types of charts. We will be having our chapter 2 test on Wednesday, October 21st.

Religion: We are spending time each day reading and responding to daily devotions.  Our prayer video for the week of October 12th is I Can Only Imagine by Mercy Me.  The following week, our prayer video is New Testament Book of the Bible.

Social Studies: We are taking our open book assessment on the Geography of Mexico on Wednesday, October 21st.  Next, we will look at the map skill of hemisphere. And we will finish the week of October 19th by learning about Mexico’s history.

Science: We are exploring the idea that the rock under our feet sometimes contains fossils, and investigating how these fossils reveal changes in habitat through time.

ELA: We have begun using ReadWorks everyday to help build our vocabulary, background knowledge, and writing skills. We are also reading the chapter book, Donavan’s Word Jar by Monalisa DeGross.  We will focus on the target skills problem/solution and story structure, and the target strategy infer/predict.

For the week of October 12th, in grammar we are learning about proper and common nouns.   Our spelling words are load, open, told, yellow, soak, shadow, foam, follow, glow, sold, window, coach, almost, throat, cold, most, tomorrow, and sailboats.

For the week of October 19th,  in grammar, we are working on writing plural nouns correctly.   Our spelling words are slight, mild, sight, pie, mind, tie, pilot, might, lie, tight, blind, fight, die, midnight, find, night, silent, and frightening.

We are also working in our Vocabulary Workshop books.

There are no tests in any of the ELA, including spelling.
