Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus and welcome back to school after a week’s rest.
This week we taste and see how good our Lord is in His life-giving miracle of the feeding of the 5,000 people. With the use of flannel board, picnic baskets, and the book, THE LITTLE BOY WHO GAVE HIS LUNCH AWAY we will find out how good our Lord is to us.
This week we will enter the solemn season of Lent with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. Our church will be draped in purple and the children have also finger painted a purple cross to put up in our hallway. We will also be making a purple necklace.
In Social Studies we continue our study of foods on the food train. This week is Fruit–the giver of vitamins which make us strong and healthy. We are categorizing them by the colors of the rainbow.
With president’s week ending our study will be that of George Washington. We used our weekly readers to see what George’s life was like as well as the book, A PICTURE BOOK OF GEORGE WASHINGTON. The children also took home a mini-book of George Washington.
Art this week will include crayon rubbings of coins with the president’ pictures and watercolor rainbows.
In Math this week we will be continuing our work with the ten frames, patterning and sorting as well as positional words.
Our letter and sound for the week is the letter Ff as in frog and fish. We will be playing “Flick a Fly and reading the fairy tale – THE FROG PRINCE; THE FRANKLIN STORIES; FERDINAND; THE MAGIC FISH STORIES; and of course THE FOOT BOOK.
As February draws to a close we will be talking about Black History month. We reviewed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and his contributions to our country. We will include Jackie Robinson and other sports figures as well as Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks and my favorite poets, Maya Angelou and James Weldon Johnson.
On Friday, February 28, 2020 we will attend a Cultural Arts presentation entitled THE SINGING BUS DRIVER. It is sponsored by the primary grades.
May our Lord rest His hand gently upon you this coming week and always!
