Week 18

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu

Please make sure you marked your calendar. We will be singing in chapel on Sunday, January 26th at the 9:00 service. A note from Mr. DeVries was sent home last week. Please make sure that you contact him with any questions. I am looking forward to seeing you all on that day.

We are off on Monday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We have  been learning about him, and we created our own dreams which are hanging in the hallway.

Please check with your child to see if new school supplies are needed. As we discussed at Back to School night, we do Pencil Case Praises in 3rd grade. Some supplies need to be replenished, and a note about this went home on Friday. Also, some children need glue sticks and scissors. Please double check with your child.

Math

We are continuing our work with division. We are having a quiz on Wednesday. We are also working with xtramath and fluency sheets to make sure that our multiplication facts are memorized.  Taking the time to memorize multiplication facts in 3rd grade is so important to your child’s success in Math in future grades. Please review them nightly.

Social Studies

We are studying the government of Canada. For our assessment, we will be creating a foldable that compares the branches of government for Canada and the United States. This is a project that will be done in class.

Science

We will be investigating how we know what Dinosaurs looked like. We will be studying fossils, and how they can tell us what an organism looked like on the outside, the habitat it lived in, and even the food it ate. Dinosaur skeletons helped us learn that dinosaurs looked a lot like lizards do today. Fossils of their teeth helped us determine if they were carnivores (meat-eaters) or herbivores (plant-eaters)

Religion

We are studying why Jesus needs to be a true man.   I have also included the link here for Third Grade Memory Work and due dates. Our Wednesday test is on Proverbs 23:22.

Proverbs 23:22 …Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.
