HAPPY NEW YEAR! Blessings from our Lord, Jesus Christ!
As the month of January begins we begin to learn that Jesus is our Light – the Epiphany of His grace. Isaiah says “Arise Shine for your Light has come”. During this season the children will be visiting the Christ child with the Wisemen who followed the Star.
As we are now in new year we will be reading and listening to CHICKEN SOUP WITH RICE by Maurice Sendak, and sung by Carol King. This book takes us through the year with Pierre as he eats his beloved soup. We will be decorating soup bowls, ice skating to the Skater’s Waltz, and of course eating chicken soup with rice. We watched a short movie, “Once upon a Wintertime”, which explores ice skating from year’s past.
Art with Mrs. Kerwin will be a project based on another winter tale, THE SNOWY DAY by Ezra Jack Keats.
Math will consist of review of numerals one to twenty, shapes, patterns, and size comparisons,
The teachers will also be beginning to complete an individual evaluation for each child in preparation for parent-teacher conferences.
In science we will be starting a unit on ICE, STEAM, and WATER beginning with the properties of ice. In this hands on unit we will be using our five senses to make these discoveries.
May our Lord rest His hand gently upon you in this new year!
