Another week of Kindergarten is beginning again! Joke of the week: Why did the employee get fired from the calendar factory?

Language Arts- We are continuing to learn in our Unit 1 Journeys Language Arts book. This week we will be opening by counting words in oral sentences, listening and identifying beginning sounds, sight words, and vocabulary. This week we will review the letter Zz and the Mm sound. Our topic for the week is different kinds of work, and our essential question is: What kinds of work do people do? We will read stories such as Pizza at Sally’s, Everybody Works, The Elves and the Shoemaker, as well as The Lion and the Mouse. As we read our stories this week we will focus on text and graphic features, genre, and analyzing what we read.

Our fourth and final sight word of Unit 1 is “and”, we will learn how to say it, spell it, and most importantly identify it throughout the stories we read and sentences we make. This week I will send home an “and” worksheet to ensure the children continue to identify and spell it!

Last week we were learning that words that name people, places, things, and animals are called nouns, and this week we will learn about action verbs in the present tense.

Language Arts Centers- This will be our third week of centers and the children are enjoying them very much! I set a timer and the students have 10-15 minutes to complete their center of that day! This weeks center topics are: beginning sounds, rhyming, sight words, and nouns (animals and things)!

Math- The children did great on their Chapter 2 math test! This week we will continue to work on Chapter 3, Represent, Count, and Write Numbers 6 to 9.

Jesus Time- This week we will continue to enjoy our second religion book God Bless Families, reading the passages and completing the sticker activities!

Science: This week we will read our second October scholastic about firefighters!

Reminder our farm field trip is Wednesday October 23rd @ 10am, please continue to send in permission slips and student fees; parents may pay the day of! We have also come into a shortage of glue sticks, I believe only glue bottles were on the supply list, with that being said if you have any extra glue sticks at home or would like to donate glue sticks to our classroom, it would be greatly appreciated!
