Welcome back from Easter Recess!
Here’s a look at what we will be doing this week:
Spelling- The new words for this week are: look, book, good, hook, brook, took, foot, shook, wood, hood, father, together, again, began. The children will write their spelling words 3x each for homework Monday night. They should write 10 sentences that will be due on Thursday. Use at least 5 words in each sentence. Spelling Test will be on Friday.
Phonics- oo words
Language Arts- possessive nouns
Reading: We will read the story Whistle for Willie. The children will read the story again at home. There will be Reading tests on Friday. The children should know all of the “R” book words for the vocabulary portion of the reading test.
Math- chapter 9-Time to the hour and half hour
Test on Thursday, 4/12
Practice test on Wednesday
Science- Plant structure
Social Studies- needs and wants
Weekly Reader- Kites

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter recess. It is great to be back with my students as we still have much more to learn in this last trimester of first grade! I hope you were all able to go online to view your child’s report card for the 2nd trimester.
Please remember to check your child’s homework every evening, making sure it is complete and done correctly, then sign or initial each page, (including the “S” book)! Encourage your child to complete all work in their neatest handwriting.
Next week the children will be taking the Terra Nova achievement tests. There is no way to study for these tests, the best way to prepare your child is to make sure he/she gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast each morning. There will be no new “R” book words or spelling words next week, as I will not be starting a new story until after the achievement tests are completed. The only homework assignments next week will be in the Math workbook. Please ask your child if he/she needs new #2 pencils for the Terra Nova tests.
Pizza envelopes should be handed in by Thursday at noon!
