With January fast drawing to a close, the Pre-K parent/teacher conferences are over and February looming ahead, our students are well in the routine of school life.
JESUS ‘ TIME- The Bible tells us that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man; and so the children are growing– learning, loving, and giving too.
SCIENCE- The big news is ice and snow. We donned our scientist hats, made our hypotheses, and then tested them. 1) Can a liquid turn to a solid? 2) Which glass holds more liquid? the one with water or the one with ice? 3) Which melts faster – the one with salt or the one without? 4) Which weighs more – water or ice?
SOCIAL STUDIES – January is the first month in the new year; followed by the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
LITERATURE – We opened the year with the authors of winter. 1. Maurice Sendak: CHICKEN SOUP WITH RICE – a jaunt through the year while sipping chicken soup with rice. 2. Jane Yolen: OWL MOON – a parent and child owling experience under the full moonlight on a cold winter’s night. 3. Ezra Jack Keats: SNOWY DAY – a city full of snow.
MATH – We’re learning all the positional words: in, under, over, etc; before/after; yesterday, today, tomorrow. However we are still working on numeral recognition and their value.
MUSIC – Moving to the skater’s waltz, freezing and melting, and building a snowman are all done with great grace and energy with the aid of our imaginations.
ART – Our creative hours have been filled with shaving cream finger painting, easel painting of white on blue, and creating our very own snowmen.
COMPUTER – Designing snowmen have helped us practice our computer skills.
GROSS MOTOR – Our gym has turned into a great race course as we take our laps on our tricycles.
Now that we have entered the second half of the school year, parents and teachers alike pray that our children will continue to develop in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man.
May our Lord rest His hand gently upon us all in the New Year!
