READING- We have begun Unit 3 with our focus on nature. This week’s essential question is, “How does the weather change in different months and seasons?” To help us answer this question we will read and discuss these stories, Every Season, Jump into January, Holidays All Year Long, and A Year of Fun. Our high frequency words are, “come” and “me”, and we will continue to practice blending sounds to read cvc, (consonant, vowel, consonant) words using the short “a” sound as our middle vowel sound. The stories in our Reader’s are, Come and See Me, and Pam and Me.( I will be sending the Reader’s home so your child can practice reading until he/she can read the stories fluently and with expression. Return the Reader’s the next day, and if your child needs more practice write me a note.) In grammer the class is learning about the “subject” of a sentence, which is the part of the sentence that tells who or what the sentence is about. Example: Mom works. “Mom” is the subject of the sentence. The cat sits. “The cat” is the subject of the sentence. Learning this will help your child develop sentence building skills, which encourages clear and precise written language.

MATH- We have been practicing writing and understanding the parts of an addition sentence. We have also been “counting up” to determine how many are needed in the first set when the second set and answer have been provided.

RELIGION- We’ve completed the nativity story with the visit of the Wise Men. Our next story is Jesus, the boy, in the temple.

SCIENCE- To reinforce our reading topic of weather and seasons we’ll discuss the afore-mentioned topic in Science.

SOCIAL STUDIES- Our discussions and activities will center around Martin Luther King Jr. and his role as a leader in promoting equality.

JOURNAL- We will write a sentence about and draw our favorite Christmas gift.

REMINDERS:

Read with your child.

Have your child practice reading and help him/her blend sounds learn new words.
