Week 6

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky

On Wednesday afternoon, our class is going to Safety Town. The children and I are looking forward to learning all about pedestrian and bicycle safety. If your child has a bicycle helmet, he or she should bring it to school. Also, we are eating lunch in the classroom, so please make sure your child has a packed lunch. It should be a great trip.

Congratulations to Karen! She is representing our class as Citizen of the Month for respect. She is a great role model for us all. Woohoo, Karen!

Please make sure you send in the $10 for our class parties.

On Wednesday we are having our Religion Memory test on the books of the Bible. It will cover Job – Daniel… Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel.

In Science, we are studying how plants are grouped. Our vocabulary includes deciduous and coniferous trees, and pollinate. All science workbook pages are graded as either classwork or homework. When assigned for homework, I always send home the textbook and notebook. Please make sure your child is reviewing the lesson before answering the workbook page.

In ELA, we are reading and discussing Destiny’s Gift. The vocabulary words for this story are afford, customers, contacted, raise, earn, figure, block, and spreading. We are also working on antonyms, words with the opposite meaning. In grammar, we are identifying and writing compound sentences. We are identifying these sentence as two simple sentences joined together with a comma and a conjunction (and, but, to, and or). There is no spelling this week. We are having reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar tests on Friday.

In math, we are continuing to work on different ways to represent and interpret data. We are having our second chapter test on Tuesday, October 18th.

In Social Studies, we are learning about the different hemispheres and the prime meridian.
