This week in first grade I will be assessing the children and administering Benchmark tests. This will help me to see what the strengths and weaknesses are for each child.
We have started the Math curriculum, and the children have been doing well with the review from kindergarten. There will be homework in the Math workbook each night, and reading homework will soon be given nightly. The reading workbook will also have the pages circled each night, but may not necessarily be consecutive pages.
Beginning next week, the children will have weekly tests in ELA. There will be a spelling list given out weekly, and a test on the words at the end of the week. We will also read a new story in our Journey’s reader each week and the children will be tested on comprehension, vocabulary, and phonics. More information about these tests will be given in the coming days.
