“There is no substitute for hard work.” – Thomas Edison

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer vacation. I am looking forward to a great year with lots of learning .

This week we are going to be spending some time getting to know each other. Please make sure your child has all the school supplies and books required, as we will start using them right away.  If there are any issues, please let me know.

Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a healthy breakfast each morning.  Additionally, your child should bring a healthy snack to school each day. We are a peanut-free classroom.

We are going to take both the ELA and Math Benchmark tests this week.

ELA: We are reading First Day Jitters and The Important Book. We will be completing writing exercises to go with both of these books. I will also begin our chapter book read aloud: Judy Moody was in a Mood, Not a Good Mood, a Bad Mood.   I will also begin the process of evaluating all the students to determine their reading levels.

Math: We are beginning Chapter 1 in Math. Our first lesson covers patterns. The students will be responsible for the following vocabulary words: Pattern, Identity Property of Addition, and Commutative Property of Addition.   Here is a link to our vocabulary cards.

Social Studies: We are establishing routines for how to read Social Studies by introducing Main Idea and Important Details graphic organizer.

Our special schedule this week is as follows:

Wednesday: Chapel, Art, and Living Museum

Thursday: Music

Friday: Library
