Greetings! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with your families and friends. As Christians, we now begin the season of Advent, in which we prepare not only to celebrate the birth of our Savior, but we also remember that we are to be ready for the even more joyous time when Jesus returns.

This week we are back in full swing with a regular work load. Here is what’s going on this week:

8th Social Studies

This week the eighth grade will begin studying the inventions, businesses, and leaders of the late 19th and early twentieth centuries. There will be many familiar names, such as Ford, Edison, Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, and so on. Throughout the chapter we will be referencing The Men Who Built America, a mini-series the History Channel made on these gentlemen who brought America into the modern age.

7th Social Studies

The seventh grade is continuing to study the colonial history of the United States. Now that we have studied the settlement of the colonies, we are moving on to studying life in the colonies. In this chapter, the students will learn how a land that was supposed to be an extension of England, truly became a unique culture.

8th Pre-Algebra

This week the students will begin Module 5, in which they will continue to build upon their knowledge of how to work with linear equations. They will focus primarily on how to write equations from word problems, tables, and graphs. The most important point to take away from this module is deciphering the language of word problems, and being able to pick out the most important information.

8th Religion

The students are continuing to study the lives of the Israelites following their exodus from Egypt. This week, we will get to the point where they are beginning to approach the Promised Land, and will be studying the Book of Numbers. The rubric for the second quarter project may be viewed here. The memory verse for this week is Isaiah 41:13, which can be found here. This verse, and Isaiah 41 in general, is a great reminder of God’s presence in our lives at all moments.
