Happy Monday! Welcome back for a new week. There is much to be done before we go on break for Thanksgiving next week, so we are working full steam ahead.

8th Social Studies

This week the students will learn about the last group of people of the Old West: the Homesteaders. This diverse group of individuals showed a tremendous amount of strength and grit by moving out west to create a home a farm out of raw land. Once we have completed this section, we will begin reviewing for the Chapter 17 test that will take place on Monday, November 23rd. The study guide is available here. Extra help will be on Thursday morning.

7th Social Studies

The seventh grade is concluding chapter 3 by finishing our study of the founding of the English colonies, as well as examining life in the Spanish settlements in what is now the United States. They too will have a chapter test on Monday, November 23rd. Extra help for seventh grade will be on Thursday afternoon at from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. The study guide may be viewed here.

8th Pre-Algebra

This week the students are learning to work with the slope and y-intercept formulas, especially the equation y=mx+b. They are taking the knowledge that they learned in Module 3 and building on those skills. The class is progressing nicely, but they need to make sure their arithmetic is correct, or the graphs might not look right. There will be a quiz on Module 4 on Tuesday, November 24th. Extra help will be that morning before school.

8th Religion

This week we are looking at how the Law impacted the lives of the Israelites, and why it is still important in the lives of modern day believers. Since this is a normal, full week, there will be a memory quiz on Friday. The verse for this week is Galatians 3:13, which is on page 35 of the student book, or you may view it here. The second quarter project will be assigned soon, and this time it is a design project. Details to come later!

One Final Note…

I am sure that we are all aware of the tragic attacks that took place in Paris on Friday. I ask that we all join together in prayer not just for the city of Paris, but that God would change the hearts of those who have resorted to extremist tactics and that God would protect those who are being persecuted in the Middle East. We should also pray that God would guide the leaders of the major world powers to make decisions that are pleasing to Him.
