READING – Last week I had each child work with me on the Emerging Literacy Survey. The results of this survey assists me in understanding each students’ level of reading skills.

This week we will focus on School Rules and their importance. The stories that will be read are, Friends At School, How Do Dinosuars Go To School? and My School Bus.  We will continue to review letters, P-p, Q-q, R-r, S-s, T-t, learn the high frequency word “like,” begin to identify some beginning sounds of words, learn that nouns not only name people, but places as well, and recognize words that are “antonyms,” or opposites. In our text book the class will read, “We Go To School” and “I Like.”

MATH – To determine each students strenghts and weaknesses, a Math survey is being administered to the class as a group.

We have completed our first chapter in Math and will have a test next week. Math chapter 1 pages will be sent home, so you can prepare your child for this test. The testing date is Tuesday, Oct. 20th.

RELIGION- The story of Noah and the Flood is being discussed.

SOCIAL STUDIES- Christopher Columbus is our topic. We took an imaginery voyage around our school to meet school helpers and learn about each one’s job. As we walked through the school we used our “compass” to determine if we were traveling, North, South, East or West.

HANDWRITING-  Although we have written some letters in our Reader’s Notebook, I am going to “backtrack” and begin to practice Handwriting strokes, to help the students learn some consistency in forming letters.

JOURNAL – We will write and draw about our pumpkin farm experience.
