We had a great first week of school. The class and I took some time getting to know one another and I can already tell they are a special group of students.
We finished the Benchmark exams and will get right into a regular routine this week. Please be sure to look through your child’s Take Home folder everyday and read through their assignment books to see what work needs to be done and also read about important due dates.
WEEK: September 9-13
SPELLING: blade, gray, past, afraid, delay, amaze, drain, maybe, break, sale, hang, stain, glass, raft, jail, crayon, fact, stale, steak CHALLENGE WORDS: fraction, trait, activity, champion, graceful
READING: This week we will continue to read the novel, Because of Winn Dixie, by Kate DiCamillo. Our Journeys series will begin next week.
GRAMMAR: simple subjects/predicates; complete subjects/predicates; compound subjects/predicates
WRITING: “Look Back at My Summer” writing assignment
MATH: Place value, reading & writing numbers, comparing and ordering, rounding
SOCIAL STUDIES: Chapter 1, Lesson 1 New York’s Regions; Lesson 2 Rivers and Lakes
SCIENCE: Why is it so hard to make new inventions?
RELIGION: Daily devotions; memorize this year’s Bible verse
TESTS THIS WEEK:
- Friday – Spelling, Grammar
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The Summer Reading project is dues this Friday, 9/13.
- Scholastic book orders are due on Wednesday, 9/11
- Please send in all signed contracts, forms, music registration, etc.
