Week 8

“Be the type of person you want to meet.” – Anonymous

Let me begin by saying what a great group of students we have in the Third Grade! They always bring me great joy! I am so very proud of them and how they try their best.

Our first field trip will be on Friday, November 1st to Teddy Roosevelt’s home, Sagamore Hill.  The permission slip went home last week. Please return it as soon as possible.

Last week I sent home two opportunities for students to enrich themselves through learning. The first one was on bridges and the second one was on favorite athletes. These are not mandatory projects, but I do encourage all my students to complete at least one of them. Everyone is required to return the form indicating their participation level.  If you need another form, you can get one here. Bridge projects are due Tuesday, October 22nd, and favorite athletes projects are due on Friday, November 1st.

If you haven’t sent in your $10 for class parties, please do so.

Trinity’s Comfort Dog, Abraham, came and visited our class last week. We loved taking a small break from our work, and spending a few minutes with him.

Lastly, if you haven’t signed up for the remind app, please contact me so that we can make that happen. I only use the remind app to let families know that my blog has been updated. Please do not send me messages through the app, as I will not see them in a timely basis. You should always contact me through email.

This week in Math, we are continuing representing data using different types of charts. We will be having our chapter 2 test on Tuesday, October 22nd.

In Social Studies we are having our first test on Wednesday, October 16th. The students began reviewing for the test last Thursday, and have been preparing using different study tools. They created vocabulary review cards. We created a study sheet. We also went over review questions that can be used with the SMART responses in our classroom. The children should also be reviewing their notebooks and textbook.

I am giving all ELA tests on NEXT THURSDAY. Our story is Bat Loves the Night and the poem A Bat is Born. We will be focusing on the target skills “sequence of events” and “domain specific vocabulary”. We will also be looking at the strategy “questioning”.  The vocabulary words are twitch, swoops, squeak, echoes, detail, slithers, snuggles, and dozes.  The suffixes -able and -ible will also be part of the vocabulary. The spelling words are more, toast, easy, socks, Friday, stuff, paid, cheese, June, elbow, program, shiny, piles, sticky, each, both, comb, and holiday.  In grammar, we are focusing on verbs.  In writing we are focusing on drafting “Personal Narrative Master-Pieces”. We are taking tests on comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and spelling NEXT THURSDAY, October 24th.
