“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent” – Eleanor Roosevelt

Important Information

Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14th. It is a dress down day. Everyone should wear red.  We will be celebrating with a party in our classroom. If you would like to send in cards for the class, please make sure that there is one for everyone. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

The month of February is Black History Month. This week we will be learning about Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, Ruby Bridges, and Jesse Owens.

Some students are forgetting to bring their instruments to school for band and instrument lessons. Ms. Philbin emails the band schedule to all student usually by Thursday for the following week. Please make sure that your child brings his/her instrument to school for both the lesson and band rehearsal. For some students, that is two times a week. Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Philbin or Mr. Stainkamp.

Next week is winter break. I hope everyone enjoys the time off!

Academics

Math: We are focusing on rounding and estimating. We are having a test on Thursday. Additionally, we are using Xtramath.org in the classroom to brush up on our facts. It is a competitive way to practice math facts, because the students have 6 seconds to answer the questions. Some children have opted out of the program and are completing worksheets instead.

ELA:  This week we will be working on opinion writing and completing a short novel study on “The Bad Guys”. When we come back from vacation we will jump back into our reading anthology.

Social Studies:  We have been learning about the federal government.  We  are having our test on Friday.
