Terra Nova tests are this week. Please make sure your child gets a good healthy breakfast each day and a restful night.
Valentine’s Day is Wednesday, February 14th. It is a dress down day. Everyone should wear red. We will be celebrating with a party in our classroom. If you would like to send in cards for the class, please make sure that there is one for everyone. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
The month of February is Black History Month. This week we will be learning about Barack Obama, Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington, George Washington Carver, and Ruby Bridges.
Please check your child’s email for the band schedule. All third graders have band on Tuesday and Friday. Additionally, students have a lesson that is schedule on possibly another day during the week.
We need tissues in our classroom. We have gone through quite a few boxes this year. Please send in a tissue box, and hopefully that will last us through the year.
Next week is winter break. I hope everyone enjoys the time off!
Academics
Math: We are continuing to work on addition and subtraction using expanded form and place value. Our test will be after vacation.
ELA: This week we will be working on opinion writing and finishing our read aloud, Abby Takes a Stand. When we come back from vacation we will jump back into our reading anthology.
Our spelling words this week will be on the months and days of the week. They are as follows: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. That is only 19 words, so I’ll add “month” to bring it to 20.
Science: We are creating models of the life cycle of various animals in the STEAM Lab this week, and then we will be presenting them to our classmates..
Social Studies: We have been learning about the federal government.
Religion: Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, and it marks the beginning of Lent. We are learning about how the Holy Spirit keeps us in faith.
