This Week in Art

ECC 3, 4 & 5 Classes:  The Preschoolers are learning about the Russian artist W. Kandinsky and his circle painting “Concentric Circles.”  They will find out that artists use different colors to illustrate our different feelings/emotions. Art can stir feelings of sadness or happiness in us depending on the colors used.

Kindergarten:  This week we will practice drawing people making sure we use our knowledge of shapes to illustrate our different body parts. How do we illustrate an adult person’s body compared to a child’s.  What colors do we use for our skin tones?  Please see the Homework Notice to bring in leaves by our next class.  Thanks

Gr. 1:  First graders will finish up their Reflection paintings for the season of fall.

Gr. 2:  We will continue our drawing this week of the artist Monet’s lily pond and Japanese bridge.  It will be neat to see how each student colors their drawings to depict Monet’s pond during a different season of the year.

Gr. 3:  This class is drawing a vase with flowers. We discussed and analyzed Renoir’s Sunflowers painting and his Impressionistic style.  We also discussed the element of space, overlapping our flowers to show background, middle ground and foreground.

Gr. 4:  Food is the theme this week in Fourth grade.  We will watch a Youtube video on the artist Wayne Theibaud and discuss how he makes his food look so realistic.  Then we will illustrate a food item from a magazine picture and color it in using Mr. Theibaud’s techniques.  We’ll call these our Delicious Paintings!

Gr. 5:  These students are making a faux Batik using watercolors and glue.  The end result will be an autumn splendor of fall leaves with the look of a batik.

Gr. 6:  This is the last class to complete the coloring of our Falling for Foreshortening drawings.

Gr. 7:  Grade seven students will be finding a colorful sunset silhouette picture to use to paint a silhouette scene. More to follow.

Gr. 8:  This week we finish up our “Scream” paintings on a phobia.

Art Elective:  Many of the students have taped up their 3D initial and are onto the paper mache step of this project.  They are coming out great so far!

Keep Creating and Enjoy your Week!
