Porque la sabiduría protege como el dinero protege; pero la ventaja del conocimiento es que la sabiduría preserva la vida de sus poseedores”. Eclesiastes 7:12

¡ Hola! While grades are important, learning is about understanding and using that knowledge to influence one presently and in the future. I believe that everyone can benefit from building some level of proficiency in Spanish. Some of the many reasons to learn Spanish are:

1.       Communicate with 350 million native Spanish speakers worldwide

2.       Learn Spanish to enhance your travel experiences

3.       Use Spanish to improve your employment potential

4.       Learn Spanish to prepare for study abroad opportunities

5.       Gain access to Spanish art, music, literature and film.

During September 15 thru October 15 we celebrate the National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or Día de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30-day period.

This year the elementary school will explore a various amount of topics including numbers, months and seasons, animals, weather and clothing in Spanish. The middle school will also study these topics, however with more depth and emphasis on grammar. Students in the middle school acquired vocabulary that enables them to express their needs. This includes the most basic vocabulary such as introductions, telling time, classroom activities, describing family relations, and the house, as well as a more in depth look at health, professions, and travel.

The Spanish Honor Society is planning to do many things to benefit the school, the community and the world.  We have been looking forward to volunteering; we are also trying to raise money to benefit the school. Also, we have plans to help the food pantry and the local animal shelter. There is much more to come throughout the school year with the Spanish Honor Society- Amigos de Cristo. We will need all the support we can get!!!

Gracias,
