Second Grade – Week of May 4, 2026 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

We are looking forward to our field trip to the Long Island Children’s Museum this Friday, May 8. If you have not done so already, please return your child’s permission slip with $20 no later than this Wednesday. On Friday, your child should

  • Wear his/her school uniform
  • Bring his/her lunch from home

Parents, kindly email me if you plan to meet us at the museum and join our class at 10:00 am for our visit. Thanks for all!

Please have a 12” ruler at home so that your child can complete his/her math homework this week. Thanks!

Thank you for helping your child memorize the words of the songs he/she will be singing at the Spring Concert next week on Tuesday, May 12.

Boxes to collect coins were sent home last week and will be collected at Chapel on Wednesday, June 3. Again, thank you!

There will be a spelling test on Wednesday.

This week, we will be

  • Focusing on Paul’s missionary journeys in Religion
  • Continuing with Unit 5 of our Wonders curriculum, including studies of syllables, phoneme categorization, variant vowels, suffixes, high-frequency words, contractions with not, pronoun-verb agreement, realistic fiction, predictions, plot (beginning, middle, end), character perspective, text evidence, retelling, capitalization of proper nouns, making comparisons, and decodable readers in ELA
  • Moving ahead with measurement in Module 18, “Length in Inches, Feet, and Yards,” in Math
  • Reflecting on American stories in Chapter 6, “Our American Culture,” in My World in Social Studies
  • Exploring how flowers bloom and how high birds can fly in Science

Specials will include Library, Art, Critters, PE, Spanish, and Music (with rehearsals for our Spring Concert). We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
