About Trinity

Trinity Lutheran School is a parochial school in the Lutheran tradition that seeks to serve students and families from all walks of faith. Our students and their families come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds encompassing many Christian denominations. We consider it a joy and a privilege to share the Word of God’s love with all people. There are many types of private schools. Christian schools are often the school of choice for parents seeking a Christ-centered education. For more information on Lutheran Schools, please visit the website for the Lutheran Schools Association at lsany.org.

Lutheran Schools are recognized for their academic excellence. Trinity Lutheran School is chartered by the State of New York, accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Association and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It is a member of the Lutheran Schools Association of Metropolitan New York, a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and National Spanish Honor Society.

Our students go on to succeed in a wide range of high schools. Most parents choose to continue their child’s education at another parochial or Christian school. Some choose to send their child to the public school in their district. Regardless of what high school our students attend, they are well prepared for the rigors of their secondary education. Many of our students receive scholarships to non-public schools and are placed into honors classes in both the public and parochial school settings. Trinity Lutheran offers Regents level classes, and prepares students for Spanish level two in high school.

Trinity Lutheran School offers programs for Early Childhood / Preschool ages 2-5, Elementary School grades K-5, and Middle School grades 6-8. We also offer before and after-school supervision to children of working parents. The dedicated staff provides a high quality, home-like experience for the children in a familiar setting. Please feel free to call, 516-931-2211, and request a visit so that you may experience our excellent program first hand. We look forward to meeting you.

Mission and Philosophy

“Trinity Lutheran School’s mission is to provide a Christ-centered education, from early childhood through middle school, where diversity and enthusiasm for learning are celebrated.”

We believe Trinity Lutheran School exists in response to God’s command to educate His children. We believe a full-time parochial school is the best way to educate God’s children. Therefore, the members of Trinity Lutheran Church have accepted their responsibility by establishing and maintaining a full-time parochial school for its members and the community.

We believe Trinity Lutheran School is an extension of the home. It is only through cooperation between the home and school that an effective Christian education takes place.

We believe the uniqueness of our school lies in the fact that Christian education embraces all aspects of a child’s development. The spiritual development of the child is integrated into the entire school program. We believe Trinity Lutheran School must provide and does provide academic opportunities of high quality in all scholastic areas.

We believe that the strength of the school lies in God working through His teachers. Each of these teachers, dedicated to the total growth of the child, helps each child to develop the concepts and values necessary for a successful adult life. Excellence is achieved through the individual leadership of each teacher, serving as a Minister of Christ, and in the unified efforts of the entire staff, working towards the common goal of elevating Christ to the focal position in our educative process.

History

In 1850, four Hicksville families gathered for the purpose of organizing a church. That first church stood on the south side of West Nicholai Street. A surge of membership growth came during the 1950’s. This sudden burst of population brought about the necessity of a Christian School. Under the leadership of Pastor Edward Stammel, Trinity Lutheran School began its existence in 1952.

The original school was a branch of Nassau Christian School in Mineola. By 1954, after witnessing the great blessing which God had poured upon them, Trinity accepted the challenge of building a school for its own purposes. Thus the 1954-1955 school year found Trinity Lutheran School as an independent parish school of the Trinity congregation. During that year, a total of 270 children were enrolled in the school.

Spiritual Life

Trinity, we believe that spiritual growth is as important as academic growth. We seek to mold and foster character driven students who will go out into the world as ambassadors of Christ. Students learn math, science, language arts and more but they also learn how to grow as model citizens of our society. We teach integrity, honesty, forgiveness, friendship, courtesy, and Christian love for others.

Our students and their families come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds. It is a privilege to share God’s words of love with all children, as we believe that our Christian faith is integral to the Trinity experience.

Each school day begins with the Pledge of Allegiance and the Christian pledge, followed by a student lead prayer and the recital of this year’s bible verse. Instruction in Christian beliefs is part of our every day life as we seek to support the moral and character development of our student body. By participating in charity and service events throughout the year, students are given ample opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others.

Each Wednesday, grades K-8 join together in the church for our weekly chapel service. Our pastoral staff, principal, teachers, guest speakers and the students themselves lead these services. Our chapel services focus on scripture-based lessons and age appropriate messages. Once a month a student from each class in recognized as the special “Citizen of the Month.” Parents are encouraged and welcome to join us at all of our services. Our Early Childhood children visit our church for a simpler, more informal chapel service later in the day.
