Second Grade – Week of January 26, 2026 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

I hope your child enjoyed the snow on Monday in lieu of attending school. Fun!

This week is Lutheran Schools Week. Since TLS was closed on Monday, Pajama Day has been rescheduled for Monday, February 2. Otherwise, the schedule for dressing down remains the same:

  • Brightly-colored and loudly-patterned clothing for Joyful Day on Tuesday
  • Best clothing and footwear for Dress Your Best Day on Wednesday
  • Dressy tops and casual bottoms for Zoom Meeting Day on Thursday
  • Clothing worn in the past or to be worn in the future for Future/Past Self Day on Friday

Your child should bring his or her library book to school on Tuesday. He or she will have the opportunity to check out a new book during the week.

There will be Super Sports on Friday for those who have registered.

We have finished work on our expository essays with excellent results. The essays have been posted on a classroom bulletin board. We will begin the process of writing personal narratives this week.

There will be a spelling test on Thursday and a test on Chapter 4 – People Who Supply Our Goods and Services on Friday. There will be a math test on Module 11, Addition and Subtraction Grouping Strategies, next Monday, February 2.

 This week, we will be

  • Learning about the joy that results from trusting in the Lord, preparing valentines to share with veterans, and reading and talking about the feeding of thousands by Jesus in Religion
  • Moving into Week 2 of Unit 3 in Wonders with a focus on the long i sound, decodable readers, present-tense verbs, high-frequency words, open syllables, synonyms, and personal narratives in ELA
  • Finishing Module 11, Grouping Strategies, including the decomposition of numbers to add and subtract, in Math
  • Continuing our reflections on the production and consumption of goods, including the related reader’s theater piece, plus taking a look at challenges producers face, in Social Studies
  • Completing our unit on water, erosion, and the earth’s surface by exploring flash floods, canyon formation, landslides, and the length of rivers in Science

Specials will include Art, Critters, PE, Spanish, Music, and Library. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
