Second Grade – Week of January 19, 2026 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

I hope you enjoyed the three-day weekend and are looking forward to encouraging your child as he or she takes the Reading and Mathematics components of the TerraNova examination.

We are looking forward to visiting the STEAM Lab this week.

There will be a Dress Down Day to support the PTFA this Friday. Thank you for providing $5 to participate. The office does not make change. There will also be Super Sports on Friday for those who have registered.

There will be no homework on Tuesday night.

The “I Have a Dream” homework assignments from last week were outstanding and will be posted on a classroom bulletin board.

This week, we will be

  • Learning more about Jesus’s encounters with Mary, Martha, and Zacchaeus and His power to calm a storm in Religion
  • Finalizing our expository essays about service dogs, reading a decodable text with multiple words containing the long a sound, identifying and using present-tense verbs, and using context to discern word meaning in ELA
  • Continuing with Module 11, Grouping Strategies, in Math
  • Reflecting on the production and consumption of goods, including participation in a related reader’s theater piece in Social Studies
  • Focusing on erosion and the earth’s surface by exploring maps, landforms, and bodies of water; participating in hands-on activities; and constructing models in the STEAM Lab during Science

Specials will include Art, SEL, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
