Important Information
We are off to a great start. I am truly enjoying getting to know all the students in the class. We have Back to School night at 7:00 on Tuesday night. I am looking forward to seeing everyone and giving you all a glimpse into our day.
The children continue to amaze me. They are doing such a great job with their chromebooks. Please make sure that your child brings her/his fully charged chromebook to school everyday. Additionally, all students should have headphones and a mouse for their chromebook.
All students should bring a water bottle to school every day.
Scholastic book orders forms are being sent home this week. They are due on Thursday, September 25th. You need to order books online by going to Scholastic.com/readingclub and “connect to teacher” My code is GZBYH.
Me Collage information went home last week. It is due on Tuesday, September 30. This is supposed to be a fun project that ties in with our beginning of the year chapter book, Judy Moody was in a Mood. Please let me know if you have any question.
Our field trip to the Waterfront Center is on Thursday, October 2nd. Permission slip went home last week. Please return them by Friday, September 26th with the $16 fee. Let’s pray for great weather!
Academics
Math: We are continuing to work on understanding multiplication. We have looked at making equal groups and arrays. This week we will cover number lines and bar models. The vocabulary for this chapter include equal groups, factor, multiply, product, array, and Commutative Property of Multiplication.
Religion: Our focus is on God creating the world. We will learn that sin entered the world, and we will focus on the story of Cain and Abel.
Reading: For Unit 1, Weeks 1 and 2 our essential question is “How do people from different cultures contribute to a community?” Following is a list of everything we will be covering.

Spelling: We are focusing on short vowels e, o, and u. The spelling words this week are step, mess, head, crops, stop, rock, clock, sock, pond, jumps, shut, luck, slump, bugs, mug, clap, sick, snack, ready, and does
Phonics: We are reviewing consonants in the middle of the words, and then hard and soft c and g (for example: celery, corn, giraffe, and goat.)
Grammar: Statements and questions will be covered. We are also continuing to practice beginning our sentences with capital letters and ending all sentences with punctuation marks.
