“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” – Wayne Gretzky
Important Information
Picture Day is Tuesday, October 7th.
As previously mentioned, Jenna and Meredith’s moms have volunteered to be our class parents this year. Last week, I sent home a notice asking for information and $10 for our class parties. Please make sure the form and money get back to me by Wednesday, October 22nd.
We had a fantastic time at the Waterfront Center. The children were so attentive as we learned about the animals that live in the water off the coast of Long Island. A special thank you to the parents who volunteered to chaperone on the trip. Mr Sandifer created a video of our trip, and here is the link.
We finished reading Judy Moody was in a Mood by Megan McDonald, and we also presented our Me Collages. They came out great. I could tell that the children really enjoyed putting them together.
Academics
Math: We are focusing on learning our multiplication facts, beginning with 2’s and 4’s, followed by 5s and 10s, and then 3’s and 6’s. Please practice the multiplication facts with your child. We will be having a test some time next week.
Social Studies We are learning about plants and animals working together in an ecosystem, natural hazards and natural disasters.
Science: Over the next two weeks, students will learn about real-life bridge design. In the first activity, Paper Bridge Engineering, pairs of students will use their knowledge of forces to build a strong bridge that supports as many pennies as possible — using only paper. Then, students will research different kinds of bridges using Getepic.com. After, in the STEAM lab, working in teams of two or three, students will design and construct bridges that support at least 5 lbs. using popcicle sticks. Finally, students will create a drawing of Sydney Harbor Bridge.
