Important Information
The month of February is Black History Month. In the classroom we are focusing on famous African Americans. This week, we are learning about Jackie Robinson,Thurgood Marshall, Sojourner Truth, Frederick Douglass, and Bessie Coleman.
Our read aloud this month is Abby Takes a Stand by Patricia C. McKissack. This is a historical fiction novel that takes place in 1960 Tennessee. It’s about a 10 year old Black girl who is denied service at a restaurant and then she becomes involved in a Civil Rights protest.
Last week, we made Valentine’s Day cards for local veterans. They are being distributed through Nassau County’s Valentines for Veterans program.
Valentine’s Day is celebrated next Friday, February 13th. We will be celebrating with a party in our classroom. If you would like to send in cards for the class, please make sure that there is one for everyone. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
