What’s New in Pre-K: Week of October 14th

The spooky season continues in our classroom this week as we explore jack-o-lanterns (spooky carved Halloween pumpkins) and skeletons.  We will explore the life cycle of a pumpkin, experiment with the properties of pumpkin plants, count pumpkin seeds, carve jack-o-lanterns, learn the “Pumpkin Prayer,” sing “The Five Little Pumpkins” fingerplay and enjoy a special pumpkin snack.  Our stories and activities will center around several great pumpkin story books.  On Wednesday, we will have an orange pumpkin party.  Please wear orange.

We will also learn about skeletons and human anatomy this week.  We will learn to identify the bones in our body and how they connect to each other.  We will sing the song, “Dem Bones” and play in a sensory bin filled with bones and black beans.  We will create art inspired by Mexican day of the dead sugar skulls.  It should be fun to explore these real life spooky characters together.

In addition to pumpkins and skeletons, our core concepts this week are the color orange, the letter Dd and the number six.  Our ABCs of Faith words of the week are:  D is for Deeds, Disciple and Deliverance.  Our song of faith is, “This Little Light of Mine.”
