What’s New in Pre-K: Week of November 3rd

This week we begin a unit of study on “My Community.” We will discuss and explore all the places that we go in our community, Hicksville.  We will begin by creating a community map and small models in order to help us learn about how all the places in our community are connected to one another.  One of our important community places, the Hicksville Fire Department, will be visiting us on Wednesday to teach us about fire safety and show us the fire trucks.

As we discuss the importance of the community park or green spaces this week, we will also learn about one of our favorite fall animals that we often see at the park, the squirrel.   We will learn a little about what makes squirrels special animals and about how squirrels are busy gathering acorns for their long winter sleep (hibernation) this time of year.

While we enjoy learning about our community, we will also introduce our core concepts of the week: Letter Gg, the color grey and the number 9.  Our ABCs of Faith for the week are G is for God, Gospel, Grace and Gift.  Our song of praise is, “My God Is So Great.”
