The Pre-K News: Week of January 5th

Happy New Year!  We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays with their families and had a restful break!  We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in class again and we look forward to all the new experiences we will have together in this new year, 2026!

This week, as we slowly transition back to our school routine after the long break, we will start by exploring the season of winter that has begun while we were away.  We will learn about the changes the season of winter brings to our environment and also explore the science of cold temperatures and ice and snow.  We will learn about proper cold weather clothing and some ways we can keep warm when the weather is cold.  Our study of cold temperatures will have us creating snowflake and snow globe art, building snowmen from fake snow in the sensory bin, creating borax crystal snowflakes in the science center, making snowflakes out of pattern blocks and reading stories about snowmen and snowflakes.  We will also learn about letter Mm and number 11 this week.  Our dramatic play center will also transform from a gingerbread bakery to a doctor’s office this week so that the children can discover the roles that people play in a doctor’s office.  Our ABCs of Faith sight words of the week are:  Mary (Jesus’ mother), Magi (we will discuss Three Kings Day), made (as in ‘God made me unique’) and mercy. Our songs of faith include, “Mary Had a Baby Boy,” “My God Is So Good” and “If I were A Butterfly.”
