Second Grade – Week of October 14, 2025 – by Mrs. Nekota for Mrs. Ryan

Our trip to White Post Farm was a terrific learning experience for our class, particularly the opportunity to view the dinosaur exhibit. Many thanks to the parents who served as chaperones!

The last day to wear shorts to school is this Friday.

A reading comprehension test and a blends assessment will be given on Wednesday. A spelling test will be given on Thursday.

Students did a terrific job of creating then-now posters for Social Studies and dinosaur projects and presentations for Science. Both will be graded as tests and displayed in our classroom before they are sent home.

This week, we will be

  • Learning about Ruth, Eli and the Ark of the Covenant, and David, Jonathan and Saul in Religion
  • Demonstrating our understanding of vocabulary and content in Wonder’s “Help! A Story of Friendship” and continuing our exploration of story elements in “The Enormous Turnip” while strengthening our phonemic awareness, blending and other phonics skills, decodable reader fluency, knowledge of inflectional endings and high-frequency words, and our ability to recognize and use the predicate in simple sentences in ELA
  • Moving forward with Module 4 Place Value concepts and applications in Math
  • Taking a look at land and water in Social Studies
  • Tying our interest in pumpkins at this time of year to plant growth and habitat plus seed dispersal in Science

Read-alouds will include the following:

  • Tops and Bottoms
  • Pumpkin Soup
  • The Squished Pumpkin
  • Growing Pumpkins

Specials will include Art, Critters, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.

May our precious Lord bless our week together,

Mrs. Nekota
