I hope you have enjoyed your Memorial Day break with family and friends!
This week, we will be using the STEAM Lab for Science. Our topic will be material properties. We will be describing and classifying different types of materials by properties (hardness, flexibility, absorbency, and the ability to conduct heat), determining materials that have properties best-suited for various uses (clothing, cooking, and buildings), and constructing objects with different characteristics by reusing the same materials. Hands-on activities will be an important part of our lessons.
There will be a spelling test this Thursday.
In addition to Science, this week, we will be
- Focusing on Psalms and prayer with an emphasis on friends and sharing in Religion
- Beginning Unit 6 of our Wonders curriculum, including expository texts, rhyme, phoneme addition, closed and open syllables, compound words, summarizing, central ideas and relevant details, locating and citing text evidence, adjectives, abbreviations, content words, comparing and contrasting, decodable readers, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, high-frequency words, and making inferences in ELA
- Completing Module 20, “Relate Addition and Subtraction to Length,” and diving into Module 21, “Two- and Three-Dimensional Shapes,” with an emphasis this week on the identification of two-dimensional shapes and the finding and counting of their angles in Math
- Exploring the history and significance of exchange and money, including bartering, coins, paper money, and digital money in Social Studies
Specials will include Art, SEL, PE, Spanish, Music, and Computer. We will be attending Chapel on Wednesday. Your child will be provided with an offering envelope on Tuesday to take home.
May our precious Lord bless our week together,
Mrs. Nekota
